When the Belfast Telegraph asked Daniel Radcliffe what he is doing with the $110 million that he earned from his time playing Harry Potter, his answer was, well... According to the article, he really isn’t doing much of anything with it.
Instead of indulging, splurging and throwing his money away by spending it on material things, Radcliffe is investing in his career and simply enjoying having the freedom to pretty much do any project he wants without relying on an impressive paycheck.
Since the Harry Potter franchise, you may have noticed that he isn’t jumping from blockbuster to blockbuster. He doesn’t pick his projects based on money. He has performed on Broadway and the West End, he has played roles in films like What If, Kill Your Darlings and Swiss Army Man. The projects he has participated in since Harry Potter were chosen for their stories, not their paychecks, showing that he is in it for the art, not for the money.
But all that money and he’s still living a normal life? He is often seen shopping at his local supermarket, and he claims to really only spend money on books and art. Celebrities! Maybe they are just like us!
He also owns a property management company with his parents where he has invested in several properties in Manhattan, Australia and the U.K. The company was set up in 2000 by his parents to help manage his assets.
So for Radcliffe, the money is nice, but it’s not really about the money.
“If someone told me tomorrow, ‘You’re never going back on set,’ I really wouldn’t know what to do with the rest of my life. I don’t know what my life looks like without regularly being on a film set. I’d go crazy. I’m one of the lucky few who loves my job.”
