Rafael del Col, a father from Maringa Brazil, lost his wife, Tatiane Valques in a car accident in 2013. Left to raise his daughter alone, he looked to the Internet for support from those who'd experienced similar tragedies, and was disappointed by what he found. He felt alone.
Though Raisinha was not even one year old when she lost her mother, she and her father honored her memory with this photo shoot, in which Raisinha sometimes wore her mom's favorite jewelry and accessories.
On his blog, Rafael writes, "Shortly after I lost my wife, I was seeking help regarding early widowhood and also paternity without the presence of the mother and found almost nothing. Now, thank God, things are adjusting slowly, my daughter is well, and is growing, developing normally."
Ben Nunery's photos inspired Rafael in his search for comfort. In 2011, Ben's wife Ali passed away from a rare form of lung cancer. Ben recreated his wedding photos with his daughter, Olivia, as a touching tribute to Ali.
Ben and Ali closed on a new house the day before their wedding and thought it was the perfect place to photograph their new beginnings. In the second photo shoot, Ben and Olivia were ready to move out of the house, and it was empty once more. They decided it would be a perfect way to honor the memory of Ali to recreate the photo shoot in the once again empty house.
