Well, it might surprise you to know that these blankets came into popularity largely from a single Etsy seller going by the name "Ohhio." The store, which only sells chunky knit-related products, has almost 40,000 "admirers" and has made over 2,100 sales. But...who is behind Ohhio? And how do they make these amazing things?
It began whenMarinenko found herself face-to-face with a giant spool of merino wool. She explained,"One day [I saw] an unusual material that awakened my imagination. I did not have any knitting needles, so I just started to knit with my hands."
The result was an unusual blanket with "gigantic magnified stitches." Of course, she confesses that "it's not a new technique," but still there's something just so comforting about these Ohhio textiles.
Sure, her prices may seem expensive, but while Marinenko wouldn't tell Tech Insider how much the wool costs or even where she gets it, she did confess that "each blanket costs her a pretty good amount of money to make."
