From your favorite animated classics to endless merchandise, the Walt Disney Company is hard to avoid. Many families make a trip to one of the company's theme parks to solidify their Disney obsession and have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It's a place where all dreams come true, naturally.
Orlando, Florida is the theme park capital of the world, and it is the gathering place for Mickey Mouse's biggest fans. Approximately 20.4 million people visited the Magic Kingdom in 2016, making it a definite tourist hot-spot. It can be easy to blend in among a sea of tourists, but one man managed to garner a ton of attention.
3. One Single Father Recently Made A Huge Statement
Robert Leibowitz—a 60-year-old father of five—has a lot on his plate. Not only is he a loving single dad, but he also has his own health problems to worry about. Leibowitz recently made a trip to Walt Disney World with his family, and he decided to plan his outfit accordingly.
Leibowitz wore a handmade T-shirt made by his daughter—and for a special purpose. On the back of his white shirt had the words, "In Need Of Kidney, O Positive, Call 917-597-2651." His call for help received a ton of attention, and it even caught the eye of a stranger who wished to make a difference.
5. Another Tourist Took An Interest In The Message
Other tourists visiting the theme park—a woman named Rocio Yanira Sandoval and her husband Juan—took an interest in single father's unique T-shirt. The couple believed Leibowitz's plight was for his son that he was pushing in a wheelchair, but what they found out about the man's advertisement was even more moving.
When Sandoval decided to approach Leibowitz about his T-shirt, the man revealed that he is actually the one in need of a new kidney. Leibowitz has been suffering from kidney disease, and for the past three years, he has been in search of a kidney. Sandoval decided to take a picture of Leibowitz and share it to Facebook, and her act of kindness began a chain of amazing events.
Sandoval's husband Juan approached Leibowitz and asked if he could share a picture of his T-shirt on Facebook. The father's response? “Thank you, please share this with the world," he told the couple. Their post urged others to share in hopes of helping Leibowitz, and no one could be prepared for how viral the post would become.
“Within 24 hours, the post had been shared 35,000 times,” Leibowitz revealed. The Facebook post has now been shared more than 91,000 times, and over 11,000 people have liked the touching message shared by a complete stranger. Although he has garnered an amazing amount of support, luck has not always been on Leibowitz's side.
9. He Has Experienced Kidney Problems Since Childhood
Leibowitz started having issues with his kidneys since the age of 12. He was diagnosed with his first kidney infection 48 years ago, and although he underwent treatment and became well, it was only a glimpse of problems to come.
Doctors noticed that Leibowitz had elevated creatinine levels at the age of 40, and he got the heartbreaking news that his kidneys were failing. Leibowitz revealed he was completely devastated, stating, "I looked healthy. I felt healthy. I didn’t want to believe the doctors. But they told me it is a hidden disease."
11. His Kidney Health Has Become Increasingly Important
This single day is constantly reminded of his dire health concerns. Leibowitz undergoes dialysis a total of three days per week due to his issues with kidney disease. Although he is constantly reminded of how serious his kidney health is, this single father has never stopped searching for a kidney match.
Leibowitz has not had an easy time finding a kidney donor with his blood type. The wait time for a kidney donation for his blood type—type O positive—is usually around seven years. Leibowitz had become discouraged, but the photo of his thoughtful T-shirt that is circulating on social media has changed everything.
“Everyone has problems. Some people are dying of cancer," Leibowitz stated. Although he was wary of publicly searching for a donor, his bravery, and creativity by wearing his T-shirt to Disney World definitely paid off—in more ways than one.
Leibowitz has received more than 200 texts from possible donors with his O Positive blood type. He has started responding to the outpour of texts and phone calls, and he hopes to find a match in the near future. Things are surely looking up, and no one is happier than the couple who set this viral call-to-action in motion.
15. Leibowitz Proves The Importance Of Organ Donors
“Not only do I hope he gets his kidney, but this has raised awareness to the public about donating organs,” Sandoval stated. Leibowitz now has more hope than ever about finding a match, and it turns out that Disney World may indeed be the most "magical place on earth."
