Cruise ships are supposed to be relaxing. It's a chance to escape all the pressure and stress from the mainland, unwind while leisurely traveling and visiting new places. There's plenty of delicious food, and an over-abundance of booze. When indulging in too much of the latter, this is where vacations can go terribly wrong.
A video went viral of 27 year-old Nick Naydev making a terrifying leap aboard a cruise ship. Was it off the diving board in the pool? Was there a bungee jump attraction? Nope. He decided it would be a good idea to take a plunge off an 11th story deck to the water over 100 feet below. It's a miracle he survived the fall.
The alcohol-fueled action was caught on video and uploaded to Instagram. Naydev and his friends can be seen laughing and jovial about it. But not surprisingly, Royal Caribbean International didn't find any of this to be a laughing matter.
Naydev and his friends were all slapped with a lifetime ban from the company. And given how far this video has spread, it's likely they'll have a hard time booking voyage on any other cruise line for the foreseeable future. Cruises have to deal with all sorts of rowdy passengers, and people have been kicked off boats for a number of different reasons. Although, in this instance, it was the exiting of the ship that caused the issue.
But this isn't the only time people have been kicked off ships for doing dumb stuff. Read on...
30 people were injured in what was described as a "blood bath" and "the cruise from hell" when an Australian family started a wild brawl. The ship was forced to dock early to kick them all out. Needless to say, the company won't be excited to welcome anyone with their last name back on their vessels any time soon.
Celebrities aren't immune from cruise ship consequences, either. Country music star Trace Adkins found himself in hot (ocean) water after getting into a fight on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship. Who did he fight? Another Trace Adkins.
The fight started when Adkins saw a Trace Adkins impersonator sing one of his songs at karaoke. He took offense to the imposter butchering his tune, and a physical confrontation ensued. Adkins wound up apologizing and checked himself into rehab after the incident.
Bad Girls Club alum Judi Jai found herself stranded in Jamaica after getting booted from a cruise. Apparently, fist fighting is a big no-no out on the open waters. It all started when she took a week-long trip with a close friend of hers.
Not sure how close they are now after what happened. The two got into a physical altercation and were forced back to their room. Their, Jai allegedly struck her in the face and was escorted off the boat.
It isn't just reckless stunts and wild fights that can get you kicked off a cruise ship. You can also be removed for something as mundane as not having your paperwork in order. An elderly couple learned that the hard way.
The American couple was kicked off a Holland America Line voyage because they didn't have the necessary visas to enter China. They were asked to leave the ship in South Korea and were forced to spend thousands of dollars in order to get home.
Neurosurgeon turned diet guru with controversial ideas Jack Kruse (perfect name for this story, right?) was kicked off a Carnival cruise in bizarre fashion over a misunderstanding involving an imposter, a Twitter account and an alleged thwarted terror plot.
Are you confused? So was Kruse. A parody account claiming to be Kruse made threats against the ship he was boarding where he was scheduled to give a lecture. An investigation was launched, and he was asked to leave while the facts were sorted out.
You hear about some people getting kicked off a cruise and think, "Uh, yeah. That's what happens when you do that." But this one is an example of the punishment seeming a bit extreme given the circumstances.
A Perth man was kicked off a cruise for flicking a cigarette overboard. He was reprimanded and told to go back to his cabin. The next day, he was left in Bali. This was his first offense, and worse yet, he was incredibly sick and his family onboard wasn't notified.
She was 25 weeks along, but the cruise has a strict policy of only letting women on who are 24 or fewer weeks pregnant. When her father objected to this rule at the port, armed guards were sent over to confront them.
In terms of offenses that can get you banned from a cruise ship, littering and being pregnant may have come as a surprise. But smuggling drugs? Hopefully you all know that's not a great idea, and it can ruin your vacation as well as your life.
So let's go back to the "hero" of our story. How is Naydev feeling in the aftermath of his idiotic stunt of jumping off the boat? He admitted that the impact of the fall affected his neck and his tailbone, and that he was grateful to still be alive after his leap.
He says it was reckless, and he hopes this won't inspire anyone to do anything else stupid. Sadly, stupid actions often don't require any sort of inspiration. And they don't always occur on cruise ships. Many other companies have had to ban customers for their questionable actions. Read on...
They say it's impolite to discuss politics at dinner, and it's also not a great idea to bring it up at the happiest place on Earth. A man was permanently banned from Disney World for holding a Donald Trump sign on Splash Mountain.
The company says it has nothing to do with politics and he was actually violating their rule about not holding unauthorized flags or banners on moving rides. But come on, look at the body language of the woman next to him on the ride. This was definitely not the happiest place to be.
Did you know that committing lewd acts in a children's establishment are grounds for removal? If your response to that question is, "Well, yeah. Duh," then congrats, because you're smarter and a more decent person than the folks in this story.
Some college kids caused mayhem at a Chuck E. Cheese, including sticking balls from the ball pit into their mouths, placing the whack-a-mole hammer in their behinds and attempting to commit lewd acts on the mascot. Not surprisingly, they won't have "Happy Birthday" sung to them there any time soon.
The Situation from Jersey Shore once got himself kicked out of an Apple Store. Did he cause a ruckus or leave spray tan streaks over the equipment? Nope. His offense was cutting in line, and they tossed him out.
This is actually quite impressive, as it's exceedingly difficult to get yourself kicked out of these establishments. Seriously, folks have done experiments. Bringing in outside food and using their Wi-Fi like it's an internet lounge? Sure. Bringing in a goat? Go right ahead. Being an annoying reality star? That's apparently where they draw the line, especially if you try to cut it..
This might be the strangest one yet. A woman received a lifetime ban from McDonald's when she was only five years old. In 1981, Burger King ran an ad featuring a little girl that would have a unique impact on her life.
In the commercial, the girl claimed Mickey D's used 20% less beef in their burgers. McDonald's sued, and the girl had to testify. As a result, she was banned for life in all McDonald's across the globe. And who was this young actress? None other than Buffy herself, one Ms. Sarah Michelle Gellar.
