How many times have you watched the Toy Story movies? Even more than 20 years after the series began, fans are still uncovering new secrets and theories about the films. One new fan theory about Andy’s mom has everyone’s brains melting out of their ears.
Before we proceed, it’s important to review a few facts we already know about some of the central characters. First of all is Sheriff Woody, of course. The toy cowboy is the main character of the series.
Jessie is a cowgirl doll, the female counterpart to Woody. (Bullseye the Horse and Stinky Pete the Prospector are also part of the Woody’s Roundup gang, but that’s neither here nor there.) Jessie has a terribly sad story.
But Emily grows up, as all children do. And as children grow up, they outgrow their childish things, including their toys. Over time, Emily forgets about Jessie. Ultimately, Emily “abandons” Jessie by donating her to a charity toy drive.
Jessie’s hat is a whole lot more similar to Andy’s hat, though. In fact, Andy’s hat and Jessie’s are almost exactly the same. But why would Andy have had a replica Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl hat all along?
Take a look at Jessie’s flashback again. Take a look at the posters and other decord Emily decorates her room with as she outgrows Jessie. The style as a distinct late ‘60s/early ‘70s flavor, suggesting that Emily was a girl several decades in the past.
Did you just cover the ceiling with your exploding brains? For now, this theory is not canon. But we hope Disney will acknowledge it someday, because we really think whoever thought of it is really onto something.
