Dogs just know how to make one hell of a tearjerker, don’t they? They should be the ones writing soppy movies. No, really. Bloody bastards would make millions making people cry and turn their heart into mush.
In another dog-story-gone-viral-because-the-dog-broke-someones-heart-in-the-sweetest way, we have two Labradors as protagonists. The story was first shared by their owner, filmmaker Easton Dufur, who told the story over the weekend. It seems that one of the dogs, Cookie, only eats half of her food and the reason behind this is making people cry.
You see, these two dogs, Cookie and Stitch, had one bowl of food to share between the two of them. Dogs, Dufur must have thought, should have no boundaries when it comes to food. And so, Stitch taught Cookie when she was still young to only eat half of the bowl so there would be enough for the two of them.
Earlier in June, however, Stitch passed away. Dufur started giving Cookie less food than usual since there was only one dog to feed. Despite there being less, Cookie still ate half of her food.
Dufur wrote about the bond his dogs had. “We got Stitch when I was in kindergarten. Then around the third grade is when we got Cookie. We felt that Stitch should have some company. But they were like Batman and Robin they were always together they always always got along and always were playing with each other and taking care of one another.”
The story was a hit on Twitter. People can’t handle the fact that:
1. A dog is heartbroken.
2. A dog is acting selflessly.
3. A dog has passed away.
One Twitter user couldn't get it together. There are no words, really, none. All she could muster to post was a Gif of Monique.
Same goes for this guy on Twitter. Sobbing uncontrollably is the only way he could react to this story. Ah, isn't shower crying the best kind of crying? So therapeutic.
People are resorting to emotional eating to feel better about this story. Like this guy on Twitter who found the perfect Mindy Kaling gif. Yes, I want a donut too, even if no dogs died.
Some sought to help Cookie grieve (and maybe get a bit of a traffic to their site in the process.) Like the people at WikiHow who sent virtual cookies to Cookie. They also sent an article on how Dufur can help Cookie grieve.
Others got way too overdramatic about all of this. Like this Twitter user who wanted to help Cookie out. She posted this Gif with the caption, "Me stuck behind a phone and can't help the dog out." Cookie is still eating half of her food, yeh, and she'll soon figure out nobody is eating the rest so she'll probably start eating that too.
Another Twitter user ugly cried while running in the hallway. Well, at least, she did so virtually. I hope she shed an actual tear.
Even animals are shedding tears on Twitter. This Twitter user thought this shot would perfectly capture her emotional state. Is that a seal or a huge mouse?
One Twitter user shared how his dog passed away recently too. Except, unlike Cookie, his dogs didn't really notice one was gone. "I lost my dog yesterday. I saw this on instagram and thought of how sad it is that my other two pets dont know she's gone."
Some Twitter users are not buying this story and think Dufur is posting this just to win internet points. We'll give you the benefit of the doubt sir but it will get ugly if you are lying. People have ugly cried with Gifs so they'll just as easily punch you with Gifs too.
