All who knew Henze were saddened by his passing. IOC President Thomas Bach commented that, "The IOC is mourning the loss of a true Olympian... Our sympathy is with the family of Stefan Henze, his friends and all of the German Olympic team."
In a statement to German publication Die Welt, the Brazilian health ministry said Henze's organ donations have already saved lives. "Heart, liver and both kidneys have been successfully transplanted," a spokeswoman said. "Thus he has saved four lives."
