There's nothing more satisfying than a fresh room when you're travel weary and need to rest your head. But not so fast! At lots of lodgings, maids are only allotted 30 minutes to clean the room. And they're often directed by their managers to "overlook" certain areas in the interest of time. Unless the room smells like a morgue, they just tidy it up and move on.
One maid warns against using the duvet or coverlet as your main source of warmth and comfort. When she was going through training, she found "an obvious [semen] crust" on one. She was instructed to dampen it with a cloth until it disintegrated. If you're going to get under those covers, get all the way under.
Here's a weird one. Make sure before you dive into that way overpriced, way underserving minibar that all the seals are still on the bottles. One maid reported that she had a guest who drank from the bottles, then peed in the empty containers. So...don't drink pee. Unless you're into it. But don't pay for it — you can make your own.
The remotes don't get a going over either. Imagine how many people's hands (and let's hope it's just their hands) rub all over those buttons, and stroke that phallic device? Way too many for comfort. If you have to use the remote, make sure to douse it in alcohol. Maybe from the minibar? Because pee could sanitize too.
The in-room jacuzzi might be a major selling point for the rich and famous, but it's a cesspool. The jets are often clogged with all kinds of human excrescence and gunk. The floor gets caked with detritus. It's gross.
Maids will also try on your clothes when you're not around. Maids have reported doing this, and it...sounds like fun? Apparently the punishment for getting caught is, if you're not fired, you have your VIP guest rounds revoked, and you can also have some pay docked. But, like, they should totally be fired.
A bed is a bed is a bed. And hotel rooms got beds. And beds often have bedbugs. It's the circle of life. Hotels are now more upfront with how more common the situation is. Just beware. They're everywhere.
