The journal PLOS ONE did a study of undergraduate college students ages 18-23 in an attempt to find out which foods are the most addictive. Their first act was to acquaint themselves with the Yale Food Addiction Scale.
The 15th most addictive food was breakfast cereal.
The participants were shown photos of food and asked to say which foods they would eat more of than they should, which foods they would be unable to quit or ignore important activities for, and which foods they would show increased tolerance for over time.
The study concluded that "it is plausible that like drugs of abuse, these highly processed foods may be more likely to trigger addict-like biological and behavioral responses due to their unnaturally high levels of reward."
And with food as good as bacon, who could truly blame anyone??
And No. 7's the cheeseburger. I mean, we have to reward ourselves for drinking all that soda! You understand, right? Nothing weird about rewarding ourselves with a cheeseburger for addictively drinking a giant can of soda!
Weirdly enough, cheeseburgers were on this list, but hamburgers were not! Sorry, hamburgers!
