When the world learned that Emma Watson would star in Disney's upcoming live-action movie, Beauty and the Beast, well, the world went nuts. The movie quickly became one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2017.
After all, you probably can't come up with an actress better suited to play Belle than Watson. There's the striking physical resemblance, plus the fact that Watson herself regularly plays characters who are intelligent, independent, and book-loving. It's the perfect casting.
As with any Disney film, you know there's going to be plenty of merchandise released. But the discovery of a new Belle doll in a JC Penney in Colorado led to a reaction that was filled with both disappointment and bewilderment.
Twitter came to the rescue, as fans quickly connected the fact that the new Belle doll looks more like pop superstar Justin Bieber than it does Emma Watson. Once you've seen it, you really can't unsee it.
It looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer for more movie merchandise to be released. In addition to Watson, the movie stars Dan Stevens as the Beast. It will be interesting to see what those dolls look like as compared to the Belle doll we've just seen.
Directed by Bill Condon, there are plenty of other stars in the movie cast. We'll see Josh Gad as LeFou, Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Ewan McGregor as Lumier, Ian McKellan as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, and Kevin Kline as Maurice.
Watson's decision to not wear a corset during the filming caught major attention. But Watson, who is very outspoken about women's rights and feminism, proved true to her beliefs with her firm decision.
