Rosa Parks is considered the “mother of the modern day civil rights movement.” She earned this title while living in Alabama due to her refusal to give up her seat to a white passenger on a bus. She quickly became an inspiration to many across the country.
Mike Ilitch was the founder of Little Caesars Pizza. He also owned the Detroit Tigers baseball team and the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. In addition, Ilitch was instrumental in helping to rebuild Detroit.
The arrest led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the boycott and preached non-violence. The protest in Montgomery inspired similar movements around other segregated areas of the country.
Keith said he wanted people to know of Mike Ilitch's generosity, since it was not something he would bring up himself. “It's important that people know what Mr. Mike Ilitch did for Ms. Rosa Parks,” Keith said, “because it's symbolic of what he has always done for the people of our city.”
