Swimsuit season is slowly creeping up on us. Cue the commercials and magazine ads with super-hot girls with perfect bodies that make us want to put down our donut and cry. I think I’ll just eat the donut and wear a coverup instead. She can't be real, right?
Thank you Target for reminding us that we don’t have to have a perfect body to be beautiful. Target made a splash this month when the released ads for this year’s swimsuit line. Their ads were Photoshop-free and featured women of all shapes and sizes. Hallelujah!
We are usually told to think of swimsuit season as a season to start working out like crazy. To eat nothing and to cut down on carbs and everything we love to get our bodies "beach body" ready. Target is showing us that our bodies are already ready. And already fabulous, of course.
This is not the first time Target went the body-positive route. In 2015, they launched their "Target Loves Every Body" campaign. In 2016 they continued with their #NOFOMO campaign, calling the swimsuit season a “No Fear of Missing Out” zone.
"Megan Batoon, Denise Bidot, Kamie Crawford and Lizzie Armanto share swimsuits that fit their style, their bodies, and make them feel all-around awesome. Thanks for being real, ladies! We’re just as excited for summer as you are!”
Target’s ad campaign is filled with body-positivity and it helps them connect with a broader audience. Women can actually see themselves wearing these adorable swimsuits because they know that they will look just as awesome on them as they do on these curvy and super sexy models.
Target says that the campaign simply wants to help women feel confident in swimwear:
“Because finding your favorite style suit is important, and we’re all about offering flattering fit and cut options to help guests feel confident in their swimsuits,” according to a news release on the website. “After all, you look your best when you feel your best!”
In a Facebook post, Denise Bidot kept the positivity going. She wrote, "Never be afraid to look into the mirror and give yourself a pep talk before heading out to the beach. It might just be the confidence boost that changes the day. I love the simpleness yet elegant look of thisTarget Stylesuit. This bikini says "I've got this!"#NoWrongWay#beyou#sponsored#targetstyle
People on Twitter spoke out about the new campaign and shared their excitement. They can't wait to get their hands one of these new designs. They also are super excited about Target always making a positive statement.
