Oh great! Here's another beauty trend to help women experience even more insecurity and pressure regarding their bodies.
Introducing the "ab crack."
Coined by Elle magazine, an ab crack is a vertical line in the abdomen that appears when a person has an extremely taut stomach.
Obviously, supermodels are the ones rocking this physique. And since you know, most of us aren't supermodels, it's insane that now this is supposed to be a level of fitness normalcy.
The trend has caused quite a bit of outrage on social media. The ab crack is just another extreme fitness fad that isn't exactly a healthy beauty standard for most women.
People are comparing this trend to the "thigh gap," which we've seen grow in popularity via the internet and celeb Instagrams.
But the thigh gap isn't realistic either!
As shown by model Iskra Lawrence, it's really easy to make it appear as if you have a thigh gap when in reality, it's just a trick of perspective.
So basically, the models that are supposed to have these "thigh gaps" can't even attain them.
Umm, no thanks. Talk about facilitating unhealthy body images for young girls! Beyoncé does not approve.
With how prevalent social media is in our everyday lives, it's no wonder people are getting angry. We're constantly fed images that make us feel horrible.
It's important to remember we each have different body types, and we need to celebrate that fact instead of vying for someone else's "look"...or ab crack.
Insane beauty trends aren't new.
There's been the bikini bridge, and the thigh brow in recent years, thanks (again) to social media showing us what our bodies should look like.
Whatever crazy trend that is happening, we've got to remember that health is always the most important thing. Take care of yourself first and foremost. Oh, and that "ab crack" can see itself out.
