You’d think that with so much fame and money people would be happy, but we know that money can’t buy you everything. For Kylie Jenner, the one thing she’s can’t buy is privacy and being normal and on her new show, Life Of Kylie, the reality star is seen struggling with the lack of normalcy in her life. “I just want to run away,” she says, as we watch her open up.
In the season premiere, we get to watch Kylie doing a number of things. From going to prom with a fan to taking a midnight walk on the beach with her best friend Jordyn Woods. Kylie is also filmed during a therapy session as she reveals that she now needs therapy to figure out what she wants from life.
Kylie has been in front of the camera since she was nine years old. The reality star has often said that she cannot remember a life before Keeping Up With The Kardashians. “When you grow up on camera, people feel like they know you,” Kylie said at one point during the special.
“I for sure didn’t choose this life – but I’m not going to say I’m not keeping up this lifestyle.” The reality star admits that her fame has skyrocketed thanks to her activity on social media. This girl is the Snapchat queen. She doesn’t shy away from posting shots of herself on Instagram, and let’s not forget she has an app too.
And yet, despite the fame, despite the fact that the soon to be 20-year-old is on the path to becoming a real estate pro, Kylie isn’t so keen on her fame anymore. “I don’t like all the attention because it reminds me I’m Kylie f****ng Jenner,” she confesses.
It wasn’t all heavy stuff during the premiere. Kylie also had fun when she attended prom with a fan of hers. The reality star was contacted by the mother of the student who told her that he had abandonment issues because his father had left him. Kylie was touched and decided to attend prom with him, along with her best friend Jordyn.
The reality star has a “soft spot” for outcasts. “I still feel like an outcast because I can’t relate to anyone,” which is why she was so willing to go to the prom. In doing so, Kylie was getting to go to prom too — something she had missed doing because she was home schooled.
Home school was the best option when the Kardashian family started becoming more famous. Now, Kylie can’t be anywhere in public without being “surrounded by screaming fans.” This is something the star cannot get used to.
“Kim always says this is what she’s made for and I respect that. But it's hard to do normal things when every single person knows who you are,” she says at one point. During the show, she also talks to her sister Kendall and her friends Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin about her struggles. Kylie says that these girls “are made for” fame, but not her.
At one point, she even tells her friend Jordyn: “This fame thing is going to come to an end. I just don’t know who I’m doing it for.” “For so long,” Kylie says during another moment in the show, “I feel like I’ve been putting this different persona.” She did so by using social media to “keep up this idea of who” she is.
“I don’t know what it’s like to live a normal life where people just don’t know who you are,” Kylie exclaims in another moment. “Just get out of the car and not have everyone stare at you,” Kylie adds. “I think I lost a lot of parts of myself.”
Kylie also addresses online critics who have bashed her over the years. People have often criticized her for her changing appearance and her fashion choices. Her career and fame have led to a lot of criticism.
Despite the complaints, Kylie also acknowledged the fact that she has it so much better than people out there. “A lot of people have it worse than me but sometimes it's a lot to handle. Sometimes I’m like, this is it, I’m going crazy.”
The reason she does keep up appearances, Kylie says, is because of her cosmetics line. Alright, sure, fair enough, money needs to be made and people need to eat. But maybe filming yourself even more than usual and exposing so much more of yourself is not the way to figuring out who you really are and what you want from life.
