Ever since Donald Trump became president of the United States, there’s been much talk about, should he leave office for any reason before his term is up, who would be worse for the country: Trump or Pence?
Many on the left have argued that a President Mike Pence would actually be worse than President Donald Trump for several reasons: fFrst off, Pence is an experienced politician who has the support of many GOP lawmakers, meaning that he could actually get laws passed. Trump, on the other hand, has a blatant lack of support from his own party.
Pence has made it pretty clear that he fully intends to defund Planned Parenthood, he’s against paid paternal leave for federal employees, and he won’t support LGBTQ rights. This is all alarming, but here’s why Pence wouldn’t actually be worse than Trump as president…
Let’s face it: Pence wouldn’t spout off on Twitter about every tiny thing that he feels threatened by, or blatantly lie about things that he’s already said in the past. This is a good thing, because when it comes down to it, we certainly don’t want to start World War III over a tweet.
Whether or not you agree with his viewpoints, it’s hard to deny that Pence is experienced at what he does. He’s a career politician who has been in the business for most of his adult life. Trump, on the other hand, doesn’t have much experience at all, and it shows.
This isn’t exactly saying much, seeing as our president has bragged about groping women, but it’s hard to imagine Pence doing the same thing. We didn’t say Pence would make for a good president, but just not quite as bad as the current.
Let’s take some time to reiterate that we don’t need to start World War III via Twitter. Sure, Pence would be less than desirable for women’s rights or LGBTQ rights for example, but having an emotional child in office with the nuclear codes is probably about as terrifying as it gets.
Although many of Pence’s social views are completely terrifying, at least we’d know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into. With Trump, it’s basically a crapshoot every time he opens his mouth (or takes to Twitter).
While our current president seems to spend much of his time putting down the media and boasting about himself, Pence doesn’t seem to have as much of an ego, and would (hopefully) spend more time actually focused on his duties as president.
Trump has become somewhat of a symbol to neo-Nazis and white supremacists and hasn’t denounced them as much as he probably should. Pence, on the other hand, if he is a Nazi-sympathizer, is much more quiet about it.
Trump has really divided his own republican party, to the point that it’s become very polarized. Should Pence ever become president, we can at least say that he would probably have a political agenda that’s more in line with what most conservatives value.
One of Trump’s favorite things to do during his presidency has been to convince the public that any media outlet that speaks ill of him is “fake news.”
On the contrary, Pence has taken steps in the past to defend freedom of the press and to protect journalists.
Once again, agree with his views or not, Pence is certainly more willing to work with the other side to find common ground. He’s serious about public policy and has more respect for the democrats.
There isn’t really much evidence out there to suggest that Trump has read the Constitution, which is kind of important when you’re the leader of the free world. Pence has read the Constitution, and understands it, so he’d be less likely to do questionable things like pressuring the FBI to drop investigations.
It’s really hard to say, but some think he’s poised to resign at some point in the near future. If so, Mike Pence will be our next president. Do you think Pence would be better or worse than Trump? Let us know!
