The loss of a loved one will tear you apart. While your life can slowly move forward over time, you will always feel like something is missing. You will never find complete closure after someone is taken away from you, especially if it was a sudden loss.
Linda Iseler and Richard Hoagland were an adorable couple living in Indianapolis, Indiana. To the people surrounding them, they seemed very much in love. They never argued or bickered and they seemed to be crazy about one another.
They both had well-paying jobs, they had a lovely home, two sons and from the outside everything about the family seemed normal. That is until Richard completely vanished one day, never to be seen again.
On February 10th, 1993, Linda was at work when she received a phone call from her husband Richard. He told her he was very sick and had to be taken to the hospital. She told him to wait so she could go with him and he refused. That was the last time Linda ever talked Richard again.
With no evidence and no leads they decided to close the case. Linda, heartbroken, went on with her day to day and the next summer their sons were sent birthday cards from someone who claimed to be their father:
“Maybe sometime soon we will get to see each other. I bet I won’t even know you. It has been so long. Mind your mother. Bye, Dad.”
Linda was struggling financially raising two boys on only her income. They lost their home, and Linda’s mother started contributing to their bills. At the same time Linda became a prime suspect in Richard’s disappearance. “Police interrogated me over and over and over. They alluded to the possibility that he was involved in some type of drug trafficking, which I had no clue.”
It took 10 years, but eventually Linda moved on. She got remarried and settled in and 23 years after Richard left them, she got a phone call that would change her life forever and also answer some of her questions as to what actually happened.
A man in Florida was doing some family research on ancestry.com when he made a very strange discovery. His uncle died In 1991, but when he was searching his name he saw that the state records showed that someone using his uncle's identity got married four years after he passed away. He knew something was not right and he called the police.
Anthony called Linda to tell her the news 23 years after they first lost Richard. It turns out that Richard left his family in Indiana and fled to Florida to hide out. There he rented a room from Terry’s father. Richard found out about Terry’s death and stole his death certificate and then stole his identity.
It turns out that Richard moved to Florida, remarried as “Terry” and even had another baby with his new wife. Richard is now awaiting his trial for identity fraud. He has yet to give any explanation to either wife or the rest of the family as to why he did what he did.
