Whether you’re looking for stress relief or pure at home entertainment, many first-time cannabis users are flocking to dispensaries to purchase legal weed. But, navigating a dispensary environment and choosing the best product can be intimidating.
We talked to the people at MariMed, a marijuana advising company that focuses on consumer safety, highest quality products and enhanced patient wellness, about the best approaches when you are a newcomer into the cannabis world.
It's not as intimidating as you'd think!
2. What Should I Expect For My First Visit To A Dispensary?
Though you obviously can't do a "taste test," have your budtender show you specific strains so you can see what they look like. You can also sniff the product to get a better sense of what you like and don't like.
Obviously each person is different and each person's need is different, but in general, a great flavor, a pleasant high, and a relaxing aroma are key components to having a great experience when you are a first-time cannabis user.
Typically, the more trichomes (the small outgrowths that look like fine hairs that contain the highest amount of cannabinoids) you can see with the naked eye, the better the flower potency, leading to a better high. Here are some other qualities you wanna look for when purchasing your cannabis for the first time:
Smell: Flowers emitting a strong fragrance are indication of quality
Look: Vibrant display of colors (deep or lime green, deep purple to bright blue)
Feel: Sticky and spongy, easy to break, avoid dry or crumble marijuana
Nowadays there are so many ways to consume cannabis that just the thought of it can lead to confusion and stress. Again, this is a great opportunity to ask even more questions. Don't be afraid to inquire about popular products (including flowers, pens, and edibles). You can also ask about the look, feel, and smell on each product.
Finding what type of cannabis works for you is strictly a personal experience. That being said, if you are a first timer that doesn't mean it should be stressful experience as well.
