Flying will never be completely stress-free, but these tricks are a step in the right direction.
1. JetBlue Goes Code Red
On Thursday morning, passengers on board JetBlue flight 1416 got the fright of their lives when one of the jet's engines blew just 25 minutes after takeoff. Carrying 142 passengers and five crew, the plane was en route from Long Beach airport in Southern California when it suffered the malfunction. The explosion sent smoke billowing through the cabin, and shudders through the entire aircraft. Several passengers admit fearing they were faced with imminent death.
Air masks deployed almost as fast as passengers whipped out their smart phones to capture the event on camera. As you can see, the plane had reached quite an altitude when the crisis erupted. Passengers say the plane destabilized and shook as the pilot attempted to steer it to safety.
As the pilot prepared for a descent, the flight attendants shouted at the passengers to brace themselves for a hard landing. But the landing wasn't actually as bad as anticipated: in fact, it was rather soft. Almost immediately after touching down, inflatable slides were deployed for deplaning and passengers were able to exit. Only four injuries were reported ”” three of which were treated on site. JetBlue definitely has some explaining to do, but this pilot definitely deserves a medal for his valiance.
