It is really amazing what your body is capable of doing. The body has little tricks that can be very useful next time you have a toothache, anxiety or a brain freeze. So next time, before you turn to medicine, try using these tricks instead. For example, if you want to stop a sneeze, try pressing down on the area under your nose right above your upper lip. While you should just sneeze and let it out, sometimes you can’t. If you are in a meeting or in a situation where you need to keep it quiet, this is a great trick.
Brain freeze is the absolute worst! Next time you get a brain freeze, press your tongue up to the roof of your mouth to help warm up the roof of your mouth. You’ll be amazed how quickly it will cure your brain freeze. You can also try to have a drink of something warm like tea.
Do you have a hard time fully touching your toes? Try reading a few sentences backwards. Now try touching your toes again. Did it work? Were you able to do it? Now this one is crazy!
Are your sinuses all congested and stuffed up? Try to drain your congested sinuses by alternating between pressing your tongue on the roof of your mouth and then pressing a finger in between your eyebrows. Did it work for you?
Have you ever been at a concert or in a loud bar and people are trying to talk to you? You can’t hear a thing, right? Next time this happens, lightly push in the little flaps on your ears. By pressing them in, you block out a lot of the peripheral noise, making it easier to hear the person right next to you.
Do you often suffer from heartburn? If you eat a big meal before bed, lie on your side to help prevent bedtime heartburn. This should help prevent the heartburn, but you should wait three to four hours after you eat to go to bed.
Next time you get a nosebleed, try this trick. First, lean forward a bit. Then, according to the Harvard Health Blog, lightly put your thumb and forefinger on either side of the top of your nose. Slide your fingers down until you reach the cartilage. Pinch there and hold for five minutes.
Don’t let your nerves get the best of you. Next time you are feeling nervous or anxious, put your thumb in your mouth and close your lips. Then try to blow the air out letting your cheeks puff up. Don’t blow too hard for for too long, but this is a little trick to help slow your heartbeat and calm you down.
Next time you burn your tongue on coffee, tea or soup, stay away from ice and swish with cold water instead.
"The cold liquid in your mouth will help remove some of the immediate heat in the burned tissue in the burned area and decrease inflammation," explained Dr. Alison Bruce, dermatologist at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.Stopping hiccups can seem like an impossible task. And don’t they always come at the worst possible time? Here is a cure! Inhale deeply, hold it, swallow twice and then exhale through your nose. You may have to repeat this trick, but try and see if it works for you.
It looks like you’ve been pooping all wrong. Who knew! The more natural and healthy way for a human to poop is to elevate your knees and feet so you are in more of a squat. Next time you have trouble pooping, elevate your legs into this position. It turns out The Squatty Potty is a thing for a reason.
Do you have “Karma Chameleon” stuck in your head? You can’t stop hearing it over and over again. It’s almost impossible to get rid of an earworm, but here is a suggestion. Try chewing a piece of gum. That gum could have just saved your day and your sanity.
Next time you have a tickle in your throat, scratch your ear. Scratching the ear activates the nerves in the ear and creates a reflux-like reaction and causes a muscle twitch. The twitching in your ear can then ease the tickle in your throat.
Do you hate needles? It is hard to find comfort when a doctor is about to stick a needle in your arm. This trick may help. Then try cough once again as it is going in and see if that helps distract you and ease the pain.
Next time you have to pee, think about sex. This will help preoccupy your brain from the discomfort that you are feeling and buy you some time to find a bathroom. I am definitely going to use this one!
