It’s not like Disney has ever failed to make our dreams come true. This is THE land where we’re made to believe that we can wish upon a star, believe in magic and dream big. So, when "Star Wars Land" was promised to fans around the world, expectations were, to put it mildly, high.
Now, Disney has released the first glimpse into the promised land of the galaxy. The 3D model was shared on Disney’s blog for fans to get a first look at what they can expect. The park is set to cover 14 acres when it’s finally done.
This is a huge fraction of land. The attraction will be built in California and Florida. Fans can hope to get lost in this land for days and really, nobody would complain.
Fans are going to have to wait a bit longer to experience "Star Wars Land." The attractions are set to open in 2019. One will be at Disneyland in Anaheim and the other at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World in Orlando.
Before the unveiling of the model, fans only had an idea of what they could expect from this land. In July 2016, Disney released concept art of the attraction. It was a tiny glimpse but it didn’t fail to get fans excited.
The people at Disney shared their excitement with fans. They spoke about the model and gave fans an idea of what they can expect when the attractions are finally open. What fans can expect is “a never-before-seen planet” that will transport them into another land.
“Both Star Wars-inspired lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port, and one of the last stops before Wild Space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life,” the blog read. A new planet? A remote trading port? Yeh, fans are going to want to move in!
Oh, but there’s more. In the blog post, Disney shared what fans will be able to do in that world. “Here, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic ‘Star Wars’ adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
The images released are enough to get fans excited. The terrain looks “rugged.” There are “lush forests reminiscent of a scene on Endor in Return of the Jedi.” There are also metal cantina structures.
Disney has invested big in ‘Star Wars Land.’ According to Bloomberg, the two lands will cost around $1 billion each. But then, Disney knows that people will come to the promised land.
Chairman of Disney’s parks division, Bob Chapek, spoke about the new land. He said, “This is the most ambitious land we’ve built to date. As you move through the areas, you might be recruited to join one side or the other.”
Executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, Scott Mallwitz, also spoke about the immersive new land. He said, “Are you a spy? Are you part of the Resistance or willing to join the First Order? It’s up to you. And your role inside of that will be defined by how you choose.”
The project for two ‘Star Wars Lands’ was announced two years ago. With that announcement, fans were promised “total immersion.” They would be able to interact with characters and become part of the story.
Fans took to Twitter to share their excitement. They seem to be loving the model calling it “beautiful” and getting all excited. One Twitter user wrote: “Shut up and take our money…this is insane.”
Yes, this really does look insane. Disney has never failed to make our dreams come true so let’s hope this will be the same for Star Wars fans around the world. If they fail, there might be a revolution.
