Coffee Customers Pay for Strangers' Drinks? Florida Redeemed

Hold the phone! Something really nice happened in Florida"”and no, it doesn't involve someone saving a kitten from an alligator.

Customers at a St. Petersburg Starbucks drive-thru paid it forward by buying the drink for the customer behind them from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. By the end of the day, a total of 378 customers participated in the random act of kindness.

Florida, I'm simply amazed. For a day you stood your ground in a way that was actually helpful to others"”and people loved it! What's even more applaudable is that no one reportedly took advantage of the person behind them. How is it possible that no one ran up a $77.63 tab on multiple 12-pump, soy milk, chocolate infused, caramel dusted Trente Frappuccinos and adorably frosted cake pops?

Starbucks lunch items aren't cheap either. You order a specialty drink, a sandwich, and a bag of chips, and you're looking at over $10 easily. I really wonder if the St. Petersburg Starbucks noticed an increase in sales that day. Forgive me for my cynicism, but what happened to the whole "no good deed goes unpunished" saying?

At this point I'm not even trying to bash Florida. I feel like if this same thing happened in LA, people would be running up other people's tabs on organic juices and almond milk macchiatos. After years of reading horrific news stories, I just came to believe that my faith in humanity had been completely shattered. But, Florida"”and I never in a million years thought I would say this"”you may have given me a little hope.
