This is writer Krista Doyle of Austin Texas. She wrote a book about her experience about coming out as gay in the south, called Does This Bible Belt Make Me Look Gay? But recently, she got even more attention. Not for her writing, but for some photos.
As you can see from this tweet, Krista's got a pretty sharp sense of humor. Her sense of fun and whimsy carries over into her personal life as well. And, fortunately, she found a significant other who is on the exact same page.
The very idea of Chili's engagement photo's quickly captured Twitter's imagination. Who says engagement photos have to be all prim and proper? Sometimes the booth of a casual chain restaurant is the perfect setting for such an occasion.
Krista said that, for whatever reason, Chili's happens to be a spot where they like to mark special occasions. "Kelly likes Chili’s too," Krista said. "But she more just supports my obsession and will come with me whenever there’s something I want to celebrate." And this was certainly an occasion worth celebrating.
And, of course, no set of engagement photos would be complete without a close-up of the ring. However this one just happens to also feature a tortilla chip. (Although perhaps it would have been even more appropriate if it was an onion ring.)
Krista got many responses to her tweet of the engagement photos. Almost everybody loved the pics, although some wanted to ask, "Why?" However, there was one Twitter account that certainly understood right away.
The cynics in us want to point out that Chili's is merely taking advantage of some free publicity. But the romantics in us want to believe Chili's simply believes in true love. Or to be more accurate, true love and promoting their queso.
Is queso really the delicious glue that holds us all together? Could all the world's hatred be erased if we set aside our difference and instead shared some chips and queso together? It might be a long shot, but it couldn't hurt to try.
One Twitter user said the photos made them believe that God was present at that Chili's. If that seems like a random thing to say, don't be alarmed. It's actually a quote from The Office when Pam won a Dundie Award at a Chili's.
Chili's wound up shooting down Matt's request that they hold out for "big bucks." So there's still no word yet on what Chili's wound up offering to the happy couple. But we're guessing that Krista will keep us posted.
