The Hello Kitty Convention drew all sorts of interesting people, and even more interesting products!
1. The Saddest Song About Los Angeles
"Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a song about heroin addiction. That's sad. The video has a slow motion shot of Anthony Kiedis running. That's happy.
2. The East Coast Did Love the West Coast
Ironically, 2Pac was actually born and raised in NYC. But the magnetic pull of Los Angeles is just so strong that even Pac couldn't resist it.
3. OK, Let's Dance!
OK Go's "End Love" proves what we already know about this town: People don't want to dance. People NEED to dance.
4. Yes, LA Is This Odd
For those who have never been to LA, this is actually normal. This isn't even a music video. It's just a typical Thursday here.
5. Pharrell Can't Stop and Won't Stop
For his song "Happy," Pharrell shot a 24 hour video of people dancing throughout LA. We at Guff are giving you the 4 minute version. We care about your sanity.
6. LA and Rack City? The Same?
Tyga lives in a completely different LA than the rest of us. Most of us wouldn't last five minutes in this town.
7. People Take the Train in LA? Really?
Shot in LA's historic Union Station, Fiona Apple's "Paper Bag" just might make you wanna travel via railroad. (Okay, probably not. But at least it was worth a try.)
8. Randy Newman (and the Lakers) Really Love LA
"I Love LA" by Randy Newman has been played at every home Lakers game since this song came out in 1983. It might be the only reason to go to a Lakers game these days.
9. Cube's Best Day Ever
Ice Cube's "Today Was a Good Day" is a day any of us would love to enjoy. If you are up at two in the morning enjoying the Fatburger then that means you are living your life correctly.
10. Madonna Gets "Real"
Madonna plays a hardcore "street urchin" who is lured by the bright lights of Hollywood, only to realize that her heart belongs to her 'hood. Because there is no dialogue, this is the best acting Madonna has ever done.
11. Tom Petty Shows Some Love for the Valley
People love bagging on the San Fernando Valley for not being cool. While Petty doesn't remotely call it cool, he at least names places in the Valley and that's almost as good, right?
12. Venice - All Day/All Night
Wiz proves that old adage*, "No one hangs at Venice Beach but tourists and the homeless" to be completely false.
*Old adage I just made up.
13. LA's Prehistoric Age
This is actually a music video before music videos were even a thing. Shot on 16mm (Huh?) in 1966 (What?) around Echo Park Lake, this neighborhood of LA looks exactly the same...minus the bikinis.
14. For David Lee Roth, It's So Easy Being Cheesy
LA can be cheesy. Like, really super cheesy. You either embrace it or you leave. David Lee Roth obviously embraces.
15. Fatboy Slim Gets Weird in Westwood
The crowd in this video actually didn't know this was a music video being made. They just thought it was a weird group of performers acting like morons, which basically sums up living in LA.
