NCIS has been on the air longer than Facebook has existed. I know because I looked it up, and the Facebook analogy seemed like the most impressive comparison. Whatever. The point is that NCIS has been on the air for a long minute, with 15 total seasons since the show began in 2003. And only in recent years has the cast begun to leave. Dun-dun-dun!
The Elite Four is a Pokémon reference, which I’m using to connect with my millennial readers, even though I’m a millennial myself. I actually don’t think I ever beat the Elite Four. Maybe one time. I do remember accidentally killing Zapdos and then saving when I was maybe nine years old. It was the first time I ever cried, and by that time I had been to both my parents’ funerals. Just kidding. Anyway, there are four original members of NCIS: Pauley Perrette, Michael Weatherly, David McCallum, and Mark Harmon.
Mmm. Look at this hunk of sexy man meat. In the NCIS world, Mark Harmon plays Leroy Gibbs, a supervisory special agent who solves crimes and stuff. In the real world, Harmon was voted “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1985 by People magazine. He was also a starting quarterback for UCLA. Damn, I need some ice cubes because IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE.
Weatherly plays Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo, a senior special agent who helps solve crimes and stuff. Actually, he played Tony DiNozzo. This jerk-wad actually left NCIS in 2016, after about a billion episodes. But fans can rejoice, because Weatherly hasn’t ruled out returning to the show one day.
Pauley Perrette has played Abby Sciuto, a forensic specialist, on NCIS for 15 seasons. Her character helps solves crimes and stuff. However, it is Perrette who recently announced that she, too, is leaving NCIS, but only after the 2017 season wraps. Sad.
In early October, Perrette tweeted that she’d be leaving the show, saying, “There has been all kinds of false stories as to why (NO I DON'T HAVE A SKIN CARE LINE AND NO MY NETWORK AND SHOW ARE NOT MAD AT ME!) It was a decision made last year. I hope everyone will love and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of us for 16 years. All the love, all the laughter, all the inspiration…I love her as much as you do.”
This is a sad announcement for many NCIS fans, as Perrette played a beloved character. But the biggest disappointment by far has to be that Perrette is not, in fact, starting a skin care line. After all, this goddess has some glowing skin, AMIRIGHT? There is simply no animus towards her epidermis ;). That was a stretch.
Actually, The Skin Thing Is a Serious Problem
Perrette really is known for having great skin, and the rumors of her new skin care line have been creating a real problem. On November 14th, Perrette again tweeted in response to the rumors, saying that she’s been a victim of fake news. Perrette even appeared on Inside Edition to explain her predicament.
In response to the public learning about Perrette’s departure from NCIS, CBS, a.k.a. the Columbia Broadcasting System, which is what I always call it, released a statement, saying,
"While it's never easy saying goodbye to a beloved actress and character, we respect [Perrette’s] decision to leave at the end of the season. We are grateful to Pauley for all her contributions to the series and making Abby one of the most unique characters on television."
NCIS executive producers George Schenck and Frank Cardea also had warm words of farewell for Perrette, and cited her “incredible passion and specificity” in playing Abby, a character who “inspires millions of fans around the world.” The producers also hinted at future episodes in the current season, saying that they were working on a special send-off for Perrette’s beloved character. Gosh, I hope it involves cake. We all love cake. Expect for people who are allergic to dairy.
The public doesn’t yet know what’s in store for Pauley Perrette, but we can assume great things. Perrette has a history of social activism, and has spoken out and advocated for victims of stalking, a crime that Perrette has experienced firsthand. With a heart of gold, and skin of more gold, we can only expect a bright future for Pauley Perrette. Congrats on 16 years of kick-ass television!
