This is Roxy Danckwerts. She's...well, she's awesome. Basically, whenever Danckwerts sees an animal in need, she helps out. She is the founder of the Wild Is Life Trust, as well as the Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery, two groups working toward building sustainable futures for Earth's four-legged friends, big and small.
When creating the Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery, Danckwerts said, "We believe that the elephant nursery is about affording the individual orphans a second chance at life. These orphans, who have been severely traumatized, deserve the opportunity to grow and thrive in the natural world."
Abandoned by her herd, Moyo was being stalked by hyenas at the moment she was discovered. She would have been a goner. But, Danckwerts nursed Moyo back to health, and as you can see, the little elephant was grateful.
In the same documentary, Danckwerts admitted, "Letting go will be hard. However, I am so determined and so sure of this road that I have chosen. I want the best for the elephant children, and that best is freedom to roam and to make their own choices."
While we understand the need to allow an elephant to grow up in the outdoors with her own kind, we also think it wouldn't hurt if Danckwerts started installing some bigger doors to her house now. Just in case.
