With sex education that focuses on abstinence, it's not a surprise to learn that the U.S. has one of the highest pregnancy (and STD) rates among teens in industrialized countries. Reddit asked its users what the most ridiculous thing they heard in a sex education program or class, and the answers are pretty upsetting.
"We watched a video about how chicken eggs become fertilized. They showed a rooster walk up to a hen, and then side-bump it. Suddenly her egg was fertilized, laid, and a chick was born. For my entire childhood I thought a chicken could get impregnated by hip-checking." ”” Smeeee
This would've certainly made middle school dances more interesting.
"Please don't tell me I am the only one who had to endure The Slideshow- an hour long presentation of pictures of different STDs. For sixth graders. Giant penises and vulvas everywhere, not that you could tell, past the disfigurations..." ”” ktrex
Thank you, sex education, for doing such a darn good job at permanently scaring teenagers generation after generation.
"My school had, and still has, the strictest abstinence only policy for a public school in NC. Everyone was told that if we had sex, we would get pregnant, we would die, and the baby would die. Everyone gets AIDs if they have sex outside of marriage.
And somehow the school board hasn't correlated this with the fact that we have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the state." ”” byrdma
It's sort of fun to think that these teens were willing to risk literal death for a roll in the hay, proving once and for all that abstinence-only sex education does not work.
"Our teacher told us that every time we had sex with someone, it was like ripping off a piece of our heart, so if we had sex with many partners, we could never fully love them because we won't have a full heart.
Thank you, small town Kentucky education. Way to mess me and many others up for awhile." ”” just_another_classic
