Typhoon Megi struck eastern China and Taiwan in September 2016. Schools were closed and tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate.
The high winds from the category two typhoon caused flooding and at least four deaths in Taiwan. More than 622 people were injured.
But one woman was all out of effs to give when the typhoon tried to take her pork bun.
A photo of a woman clinging to her pork bun amid the wrath of Typhoon Megi went viral when it was posted as part of the Wall Street Journal's coverage of the natural disaster. We're pretty sure she is all of us.
Winds with gusts of up to 120 m.p.h. bombarded the city around her. A total of 40 inches of rain fell...
...but the woman held firmly on to her pork bun. Because, you know, priorities.
This woman was so relatable that the internet found a new folk hero in this difficult time.
“What else are you supposed to do other than eat pork buns in a typhoon?” said one commenter.
The messages of support were simple, yet said everything they needed to say.
“Pork bun >>> all," said one Facebook comment.
The woman's ability to stand her ground in the face of adversity was applauded — but in this case, adversity was a massive natural disaster and her ground is holding on to a pork bun.
“The sheer amount of determination," one commenter pointed out.
This woman is now officially the patron saint of anyone who just wants to be left alone to eat their damn pork bun.
“The umbrella you can have. But the pork bun? NO!” reads the caption on this homage to our new spirit animal.
The woman in the photo was surprised the photo went viral and said she was "unlucky" that this moment is her fifteen minutes of fame. Additionally, the woman says she hopes that the attention of her photo can draw business to her fruit stand.
This story has left us inspired, but also hungry. Who wants to grab a pork bun?
