Hüseyin Sahin is a Turkish artist based in Istanbul. Because of his amazing works of art, he’s amassed over 60K followers on Instagram. Sahin’s images are something straight out of your dreams and they take exceptional Photoshop skills. He creates them by layering multiple images on top of one another to create a realistic and fantastical work of art.
His images contain elements out of Turkish folklore and mythology. This photo makes me think of the Cosmic Turtle, or the turtle who carried the world on his back.
They also seem to comment on society today. This image seems to be critiquing society’s absorption with technology. How many times have you seen people walking down the street totally absorbed in their phones, completely ignoring the world around them?
He also created images as a political commentary. The above photo is of a child in war-torn Syria, flying a plane as though it were a kite.
A good amount of his work are unexpected combinations of nature. Sahin enjoys using whales in his work, and has another image of a whale jumping out of a sand dune.
This photo would make Lisa Frank proud.
Some of the images blur the lines between fantasy and reality a bit more than others. When first looking at this, I thought it could be an actual beach for a minute. Trust us...it is not.
This beach reminds me of something out of a science-fiction movie. It’s like some alien planet, where the entire resort is the actual planet. And to top it off, it has million-mile-long beaches. Can I go on vacation here?
Is this Kansas’s “Dust in the Wind” visualized? Is it not. Some of Sahin’s images are very surreal and reminiscent of Salvador Dali. The theme of death and the ebb and flow of time are present in many of his images.
This image looks like it came straight out of Edgar Allan Poe’s head. Again in this image, Sahin is playing with the concept of death and existential fear, although this is one of his more morbid creations.
While some of Sahin’s images can be very pleasant and dream-like, others look like they came out of a nightmare. Actually, tsunami dreams are pretty common and represent feelings of being overwhelmed.
A lot of Sahin’s images are playful. He has several images where he combines nature and the individual in a clever way. In this image, the baker’s hand is almost like the hand of God adding the final touches to Earth on the seventh day.
Again, this is one of Sahin’s playful images. He’ll take something as simple as a puddle in the road and construct a whole narrative around it. A narrative that you would have never thought before.
In this image you can also see how Sahin applies layering. You can tell the background was originally a photograph of some beach, but the boys in the canoe are painted.
