Madeleine (left) said that a family photo has been in her bedroom since she started going to school. It represents part of her family history that's a little different from other families. “It has been in my room because I look at (it) as an inspiration,” she said.
“I wanted to do this because I wanted to show my friends and followers how I had a story not too many people knew about,” Madeleine said. “I thought the picture has always made me somewhat unique! It was supposed to represent how far we’ve come as a family.”
The photo worked out, but getting the right pose had some difficulties. “It was funny!” she said. “Everyone was staring. My dad had to lean down and someone had to help balance me. But once I was balanced, my dad was able to keep me on his shoulders.”
The tweet already has over 300,000 likes and over 76,000 retweets. In addition, it has over 800 comments from people touched by the two photos. For instance, this commenter teared up at work, which is perfectly understandable.
People couldn't stop posting about how much they liked her photo recreation. Madeleine was surprised by the huge response. “It meant a lot to me, but I had no idea it meant a lot to other people as well,” she said.
Madeleine also Tweeted this tribute to her mother, saying that she never ages. Madeleine said she hopes her family's story can inspire others. "It’s not impossible to make it together as a family," she said.
As for the future, Madeleine's already got some big plans. In the fall, she's attending Rider University in New Jersey on an athletic (soccer) and academic scholarship. So she'll soon be living far away, but it's a safe bet to say her parents are proud.
