During Thanksgiving, we all contemplated what we were thankful for. If you were with your family this Thanksgiving, there were a couple of points they probably stressed you out. Nonetheless, we all know the most important thing to be thankful for is family … especially moms. Moms are just the greatest.
Listen, dads are great, but there’s nothing quite like the bond between a mother and child. Moms bring us into the world, they nurture us, tell us to put on that extra sweater, call us fifty times a day and do a million things for us throughout our lifetimes. The bond between a mother and daughter is particularly special. Mothers see so much of themselves in their daughters, and they are not only our moms, but our best friends.
Sometimes, they’re even more than that. Single moms have so much extra responsibility on their shoulders. They have to be both the mother and the father to their daughter. Well, one young lady has recently touched a few hearts by showing her mom how thankful she is for taking on both parental roles throughout her life.
Haley McDaniel is a 17-year-old high school senior from Fredericksburg, Virginia. From the looks of her Twitter account, she’s just a regular happy-go-lucky high school girl. She loves hanging out with her friends, taking selfies and participating in school events and playing volleyball. She also loves her mama.
Recently, Haley was given an assignment for her humanities class. The assignment was to write a letter to someone you are most thankful for. The teacher also asked the students to film the reaction. Haley chose to write a letter to her mom, Julie Robinson.
On Nov. 7, Julie posted the video on Twitter. “Wrote my mom a note telling her how thankful I am for her and for her fulfilling the mother and father position in my life, her reaction killed me,” Haley captioned the video. In the video, Julie sits down to read the letter. She starts to read it out loud, but Haley yells “No!” So, she reads the letter to herself.
In the video, Haley starts off in front of the camera. Then she moves out of the shot, so her mother’s reaction is the main focus. Her mother already has a massive smile on her face when she begins to read the letter. Haley must have said something pretty cheeky, because Julie looks up and gives her daughter this sly smile.
Julie continues reading on, and you can see the tears welling up in her eyes. She looks up to try to keep herself from crying. Then when she covers her face, Haley runs over to her and gives her a big hug. You kind of can’t help getting a bit emotional yourself watching the video.
There’s a lot of deep sighs, a lot of smiles and giggles and a good amount of tears in the short 90-second video. Even Haley starts tearing up close to the end of the video. There are only about 15 words spoken throughout the whole thing, but a video paints a thousand words. At the end of the video, Julie hugs her daughter and thanks her for the sweet letter.
I wish we knew what the letter said, but I guess that can just remain between mother and daughter. So, how do you feel after watching this video? Do you feel like you need to go call your mom? That’s totally fine if you do. I’ve already called my mom eight times today after watching this video.
