McDonald's is known for their many products that have been incredibly successful over the years. The Happy Meal, the Big Mac, Chicken McNuggets and more have all achieved classic status. But that hasn't been the case with all their items.
Thompson said that McDonald's Pizza “is something I’ve always had in the back of my mind.” He added that, “Every few years it would pop up and I would think about it.” Then later, when thinking about all the popular true crime podcasts, he decided to start investigating the pizza mystery for himself.
During his research, Thompson learned that all hope in finding McDonald's Pizza was not lost. If you want McDonald's Pizza, you can still get it at two locations! One in West Virginia, and one in Ohio.
Obviously, Thompson knew he needed to get to one of these locations and try the pizza for himself. So he started a Kickstarter to fund the trip. To pay for airfare, a night's stay at a hotel, and other expenses (including cost of pizza), he asked for $981.
Thanks to donations from 62 backers, Thompson got his money and made the trip. After dozens of episodes devoted to the topic, he was finally going to eat McDonald's Pizza. But would it be worth the hype?
Thompson and his producer finally arrived at the Pomeroy, Ohio McDonald's in March 2017. They ordered three pizzas – cheese, pepperoni and deluxe – and gave them a whirl. The verdict? “McDonald’s pizza is everything I hoped for...It tastes good.”
