In 2003, the reality series Wife Swap premiered in the U.K. In each episode, two married couples "swap" wives so they can each experience what the other's life is like. Another version of the show would later air in the U.S.
The couple became known for their foul language on the show, swearing a total of 60 times on the 44-minute episode, mostly using the F-word. And Lizzy, more than her husband, was the stand-out. The mother of eight was a star.
Lizzy's appearance on the reality show also had a degree of controversy. Some people were upset upon learning that Lizzy and Mark were not working, and yet were receiving £37,500 in benefits a year from the British government. However, Lizzy was about to get work on a more frequent basis.
The following year, Lizzy got a job...on another reality show. She appeared on the British series Back To Reality, featuring stars from other reality shows. She was sent out of the house after two episodes.
In 2007, Bardsley's career was in danger when she was arrested for child cruelty. She was accused of punching and hitting a 16-year-old male, biting him, and trying to knee him in the groin. She denied the charges.
The judge said Lizzy was "pig-headed" and was "lacking in empathy." She was given an eight-month sentence, but it was suspended for two years. Bardsley said she was willing to seek help for her behavior.
However, Lizzy's hair isn't the only thing that's changed in her life. After eight years of marriage, she and Mark split up. This was after they had renewed their vows on an episode of Bed And Bardsleys.
Lizzy said fame affected her marriage, stating, "Our marriage was fine when we went on the show but he found the fame hard to deal with. I’m better off without him." However, she added, "Yes, I’d do it all again because it gave my family so many opportunities."
