If you have a dog or a cat, then you're probably quite familiar with how animals sometimes take it upon themselves to become alarm clocks. But rather than barking or whining, the pit bull in this story had a very different technique.
Grey's owner couldn't get people to believe his story about his dog, so he decided to catch her on video. He set up a camera in night vision mode and taped Grey trying to get his attention early one morning.
6. See For Yourself
Here's the resulting video. Grey starts asking for attention just before 5am, and she really sounds like a cat meowing!
7. She's Not The Only One
Grey isn't the only dog who can meow like a cat. The dog in this video is being taught to meow through clicker training. Clearly, dogs can imitate cats if they try hard enough.
Regardless of how interesting and cute Grey was when waking her Dad up, it was still an annoying habit. If your dog doesn't let you sleep through the night, it can quickly become frustrating and disruptive.
According to this video by Pet MD, dogs can sleep up to 14 hours a day. That means your dog should absolutely be able to sleep through the night. It may take a little investigation to figure out why your dog is waking you up.
In some cases, your dog may have separation anxiety. Pet MD explained that one man's dog was actually anxious because he was being kept in a different part of the house. If your dog isn't already sleeping in or near your room, try moving him so that he's closer to you during the night.
Pet MD discussed another dog who had a different problem. The dog had gotten so big that he was waking his owner while he was in bed with her, but the dog didn't want to be separated from his owner. Crate training the dog to sleep in a crate in the bedroom solved the problem.
Pet MD also mentioned the importance of giving your dog sufficient exercise. If your dog is disrupting your sleep, try increasing his exercise regime to see if it tires him out enough to sleep through the night.
Finding the right solution to getting your dog to let you sleep all night may take some trial and error. And if your dog starts meowing to get you up? Be sure to set up a camera; you just may have a viral video on your hands!
