Look, we all have things we like to do in our free time. Some like to hug trees. Others stuff their face with junk and other people like to read.
Who cares what we do? We work hard, damn it! As long as we’re not hurting anyone, we should do what we love.
This is what one guy believes. Much like many guys out there, this guy loves his games. And by loves, I mean, LOVES. Given the choice, this man chose his games over his girlfriend.
Let’s take a step back, shall we? You see, a screenshot of text messages between this guy and his girlfriend have gone viral. It seems that this wasn’t the first time the girlfriend had frowned upon this guy’s love for video games.
In the texts, the girlfriend asks the gamer if he has any plans for the night. Maybe she thought he’d tell her he was going to work on his e-commerce business which he does on the side or maybe that he was going for a run to clear his thoughts. Basically, wishful thinking and what not…
The guy writes something very different from what his girlfriend wanted to hear. He texts back, saying, “Hey! Yup! I have hockey tonight with the boys and I think I'm going to chill out with some Destiny before I have to go. What about you?” Sounds like a relaxed evening but clearly, this was not what the girl wanted to hear.
“So I take it we're done here?” the girlfriend texts back. Notice how she was very quick to snap back. This girl wasn’t really interested in knowing what his plans were. She was trying to find out if he was going to spend his time playing video games once again.
You see, they must have had this argument before. This is clear from what the gamer texts back. He writes, “Well that depends, are you ok with how I choose to spend my free time and that it's important to me that I have my me time?”
Again, notice his reply. This guy is strategically trying to sound modern. He wants her to understand that guys need their “me time” as much as women do.
The girl shoots back. She writes, “I just don't think that you should be wasting your life away on a stupid video game.” Strong argument there but sadly, the guy comes back with a great comeback.
“Well, would it be better for me to waste my life on something I enjoy or on someone who is going to give me ultimatums?” Uuu, yeh. I mean, I get her point but ultimatums aren’t fun for anyone, so video games win here.
The girl then goes on the defensive. She accuses him of choosing a video game over her. The guy is quick to tell her that she doesn’t see the whole picture and it isn’t just about a video game.
At this, the girl asks him to elaborate on his answer. The gamer tells her, “I have friends that I only get to hang out with on the game. Friends I have had for some time now. It's more than just a video game it's how I choose to relax and a part of me and of you can't accept then there is no future here.” At this, the girl gets even angrier.
She texts him back, writing, “Wow, you're seriously going to choose some fucking nerds on the internet over someone that you would actually get to hang out with.” At this, the gamer realizes that this girl still can’t get it. More than that, he realizes that this conversation is eating up time out of his “me time.”
And so, rather than explaining further, he decides to send the girl a picture of a virtual gun. He tells her that it’s going to “be rough out there” and ends with that. Not the best way to break up with a girl but hey, at least he sent her off with some wise words.
