It’s sad that no matter what type of body shape we have, we’re never really happy with what we have. Even if we have a loving partner who praises our body, we never see beauty there. We can blame the media, the bullies or whoever else we want to blame but at the end of the day, if we don’t love our body, then we are the ones who are going to live a miserable life.
This is how it was for one wife and mother for a very long time. Jasmine “Jazzy” Owens didn’t like what she saw in the mirror — she barely ever looked at herself. And yet, Jazzy had a husband who continually assured her how beautiful she was to him.
But these days, Jazzy is singing a different tune. The wife and mother has finally started to appreciate all of her curves and loving her body just the way it is. She is doing more than that, Jazzy is inspiring others to love their body too.
You see, Jazzy took to Instagram to talk about positive body image. She posted a photo of herself at the beach wearing a two piece. In the shot, Jazzy is holding her husband’s hand as he too is in a swimsuit.
As a result, Jazzy always questioned how her husband could love her. Along with the Instagram picture, the wife and mother wrote, “Over the years this man has loved every curve, every roll, and every stretch mark on my body. I never understood why!”
“How could he love something that isn't ‘perfect’?” Jazzy asks. “How could a man who was ‘born fit’ love someone like me! I don't have a flat stomach, I jiggle when I walk, hell if I run up the stairs too fast my body claps (lmao)!!”
“But now I see I do have the ‘perfect’ body!!” Jazzy adds. “Every roll, every curve and every stretch mark is put on me just perfect to make both of us happy!!! I love my body and I finally see why he does too!!”
It’s not like Jazzy hasn’t tried to lose weight. She told HuffPost that she tried several types of diets. She even took supplements. At one point, she even considered surgery so she could start feeling better about herself.
What’s worse is that because of her negative body image, Jazzy stopped herself from doing the things she loved. “Over the years my negative body image has held me back from enjoying life with my husband and kids,” she confessed. But there came a day when she “was finally fed up with hiding from the world,” she adds.
The change started when Jazzy started to really look at herself in the mirror. “I stood in the mirror and truly looked at myself. Before I couldn’t even stand to see myself, so to be able to get naked and stand in front of the mirror and just look at my body was a huge first step for me.”
“Since then,” Jazzy continues, “I have made steps such as buying my first two-piece bathing suit, wearing it to the pool and to the beach and learning to stop judging myself.” She also started showing her body off on Instagram.
Her body confidence has earned her some new fans on Instagram but her outspokenness has also brought some critics. Jazzy has been fat shamed on Instagram. She was even accused of promoting the idea of “being physically unfit.”
Whether she has fans or haters, Jazzy knows that what she will always have is the support of her husband. “When I started receiving negative comments and opinions, at first I was really hurt,” she admitted. “But my husband was the one who first told me that they are just opinion and that I was too beautiful to let the insecure, negative people impact my life. If it was not for my husband being my number 1 supporter and encouraging me to get out there and show the world who I am, I would be still inside my little torment box I called my comfort zone.”
