Becoming a parent isn't for everyone. Raising a child can be one of the most rewarding experiences for a human being. It can also be a constant challenge. You have to make tough choices every single day, starting even before the baby is born. One of the most challenging decisions is figuring out what to name your offspring.
Coming up with a solid baby name is tough. After all, they'll presumably have it for their entire life. You want to give them something unique, meaningful and something that hopefully won't eventually get them teased on the playground.
Often, children are named after someone special in their parents' lives. This could be a grandparent or other family member that is no longer with them. This is a touching way to preserve their memory and continue their legacy.
That wasn't a hypothetical scenario, by the way. Pictured here are Justin and Jordan of Fort Smith, AR. Their last name... wait for it... is Garton. And that is exactly what they are doing with their child's name.
The establishment actually helped the couple through a tough time. In 2015 the Gartons bought a never-ending pasta pass from the Italian chain restaurant. They weren't alone in taking advantage of this deal, as it was massively popular.
“We committed to eating there every day for six or seven weeks to get our money’s worth. It saved us several hundred dollars when we really needed it," said 28 year-old Justin. That is a level of brand commitment almost unheard of.
Eating at a restaurant every single day for nearly two months is ridiculous customer loyalty. But the Gartons took it to a new level when Jordan became pregnant with their first child. They wanted to give their daughter a name with Italian origins, and their thoughts naturally drifted to their favorite Italian hangout.
They initially thought of naming their daughter "Olive," but thought it was a bit too on the nose. But then they came across the name "Olivia." That's when they decided to name her "Olivia Garton." According to Jordan,
"We were able to make the joke, but a little more subtle, and it’s still a pretty name."
The official Twitter of Olive Garden replied to this news. They were ecstatic to hear someone enjoyed them so much they were going to name their first-born after their store. This was the ultimate example of "When you're here, you're family."
An Olive Garden spokeswoman made a statement, expanding on their excitement about this news.
"We couldn’t have been more thrilled upon hearing about the Garton’s growing family. We always love hearing the unique ways our guests have been able to connect with Olive Garden, and we can’t wait to meet baby Olivia."
They actually will give little Olivia a family-inspired name. It's a family tradition of new Garton parents to give their children one of their siblings' names as their middle name. So Olivia's full name will be "Olivia Michelle Garton"... or O.M.G.
