As fun as it is to spend hours scrolling on Instagram, this social medium has one major problem. Let's just say it: we all feel bad when we scroll through other people's feeds. And well, that's because Instagram is THE place to project an idealized version of your life. I mean, come on, no one's life is that Instagrammable. Thankfully, amid the thousands of people projecting idealized versions of their lives who make us believe we are not living the best life we could possibly live, there is one woman who is recreating these idealized photos and killing her thousands of followers with laughter along the way.
Meet Celeste Barber. This woman is a comedian, an actor, and a writer. But mainly, she is the woman who has been recreating the famous photos that have been killing our self-confidence. This woman is bold and she is using her body for comedy, while simultaneously giving us all a reality check. Take this photo for instance. Let's skip the obvious parts of this comparison and go straight to the point: who the hell would voluntarily get fingerprints all over the mirror they have to clean? Yeah...
Seriously though, Barber knows the photos that will work. Look at this one. The left photo is what many women would save on Pinterest as their "thinspiration" photo. But really, unless you're genetically gifted, you can't be eating ice cream and looking that skinny. Also, melted ice cream looks good on no one except the model.
Barber clearly knows what real struggle is. The first photo is just a glamorized version of the struggle to get into a pair of jeans. This comedian showed us what getting into a pair of jeans really looks like.
I guess having an ass like Jennifer Lopez and the help of Photoshop is key to showing off your panties in a couple's photo shoot and still looking amazing. Maybe it's the yellow lighting that's making Barber's photo far less glamorous. Yeah, I'm sure it's just that.
Look, I don't care how healthy you are and how much you love your greens, nobody can be this excited about a salad. I love veggies too, but I will jump at the thought of a juicy burger. Barber thought the same thing and that is why she recreated this photo with a bunch of kale as her source of happiness.
This woman is amazing, but for me, she excels whenever she recreates photos of models sitting down with barely any clothing. Barber shows us exactly how we all look when we're sitting down with no clothes on. Even the skinniest people will have a tiny pooch when sitting down, so ignore the model. now.
Barber will even put on a complicated swimsuit for the good of humanity on Instagram. She's not afraid of showing how she (and the rest of us) would look when wearing this type of swimwear. Even if we hold our breath all day long, it won't get that much prettier. But hey, at least it's real.
Shooting a mirror pic with a towel wrapped around your head is trending these days on Instagram. You can copy the model and show off your tattoo. Or, you can copy Barber and tell your followers exactly how many rolls of fat you have on your bod by writing numbers on each one. #WhoCares
Barber has also shown us how granny panties look on the average person. They look like, well, like granny panties. But if you're super thin and you wear them the Brazilian way, then they kind of look sexier. Kind of.
Instagram influencers even idealize common, everyday things. Take this photo of Jessica Simpson with her head out of the car window. Yeah, no one looks this serene when their head is sticking out of a moving car.
This woman will do anything for us. This includes posing almost naked to prove to us how difficult it is to look hot while climbing a tree. It's sad she couldn't afford star pastes though. Maybe we should start a fund for her.
She will also risk splitting her groin into a million pieces to recreate a photo. Barber looks like a bug stuck uncomfortably to a wall. And well, it's exactly how we would all look while trying to attempt the model's pose.
Ah, the kitchen sink pose. It's nice to see someone else's gut hanging and looking all flabby. This would be another great photo to file under "thinspiration." But maybe we should consider filing Barber's shot as well, to remind ourselves that flabby looks good too and it's a hell of a lot funnier.
And finally, we have Barber's take on Beyonce's photo debuting her twins. I don't give a crap if you're "The Queen." Nobody should be so pretentious and pose for a photo like this. She looks like a wannabe Madonna (Jesus's mother, not the other Madonna). Barber has done a great job in reminding us how silly these photos are, so before you make yourself feel bad because you saw another "perfect" shot, maybe you should take a look at Barber's page. Her videos are exceptionally funny, too.
