What happens when Miss Great Britain goes on the reality dating show called Love Island and has a steamy, sexy night with another contestant on camera? She gets de-crowned. Why? Because apparently we are living in the dark ages and women do not have the right to express their sexual freedom.
On June 15th's episode of the ITV2 show Love Island, Miss Great Britain Zara Holland got a little too cozy with another contestant on the show named Alex Bowen. The two spent a night together in "The Hideaway."
After the episode aired, the Miss Great Britain Organization released the following statement: "Following recent actions within ITV2 show Love Island it is with deep regret that we, the Miss Great Britain Organisation, have to announce that Zara Holland has formally been de-crowned as Miss Great Britain."
The statement continued:
As an organisation we have not taken this decision lightly, we are close to all of our winners and wherever possible stand by them during their reign. That said, we feel we have no decision but to make this decision under the current circumstances...The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward...
We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title."
After finding out that she had been de-crowned, Zara broke down in front of the other contestants ”” and in front of the TV cameras.
Zara said, "I wouldn't even do that if I was in a couple with someone. I just feel like everyone's going to judge me. But look it's not like me at all, it's so out of character... I've never had a one-night stand or anything. Even when I've been seeing guys, I don't just sleep with them on the first night."
Caroline Flack, the host of Love Island showed her support by tweeting, "Feel even more sorry for Zara now she's been de-crowned. She's a very sweet girl . What even is 'miss GB' ? Are we living in the dark ages?"
