It’s official — a global epidemic is underway, and it’s truly the stuff of nightmares. Creepy clowns are popping up in cities around the world to terrify innocent people and cause mayhem everywhere from Phoenix, Arizona to Cumbria, England.
The origins of the “creepy clowns” trace back to Green Bay, Wisconsin, when locals first reported seeing a scary-looking clown walk around the town with a handful of black balloons. Terrifying, absolutely. But it turned out that this clown, named Gags, was simply a character in a short film that was filming in the area.
Gags may have been a benign clown with a legitimate reason for being dressed as an ultra creepy clown, but he seems to have launched one of the most blood-chilling crazes, like, ever. The clown hysteria spread to South Carolina, Kentucky, Oregon, California, and eventually nearly every state in the U.S. Now, the creepy clowns have also started terrorizing citizens in the U.K.
After several traumatizing creepy clown incidents in Whitehaven, Cumbria, a local costume company, Cumbria Superheroes, decided to save the day and give some peace of mind to the citizens of this English town.
Cumbria Superheroes sent out “Batman” to chase away the creepy clowns so that children can sleep at night. There are photos of this Caped Crusader running down the creepily dressed pranksters, and now we can all rest a little easier knowing that there is at least some justice in the world.
Dozens of clown sightings have been reported in Cumbria just this past week, but now that Batman is on the case, children throughout the town feel much safer.
One child wrote a letter to the clown-chasing Batman, saying, “I have been scared of this clown situation (school told us about it yesterday)... I seen on my mammy fb that u caught the clown [sic] this means I can go to school and not be scared thank you for your efforts.”
8. Here's What Batman Has To Say About The Clowns
Cumbria Superheroes posted this video on their Facebook page with the caption, “Please reassure you’re kids there safe [sic], they only know what you tell them.”
So while this brave Batman is obviously reassuring for the residents of Cumbria, it doesn’t do much for the rest of the cities across the U.S. and the U.K. that are being plagued by creepy clowns — except maybe give us hope that we too will soon see a Caped Crusader chasing away the clowns in our areas.
While a majority of clown incidents have been non-violent, recently some of the clown incidents have escalated to violence, which is why law enforcement and frightened citizens all over the U.S. and the U.K. are calling for the clown frenzy to stop.
Cumbria Superheroes issued a message to the creepy clowns: “It’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt, a young kid running from a clown into the road. The clowns need to realize their actions could have serious repercussions.”
