One of the first things that we are taught as a child is that you can't judge a book by it's cover. It's such a simple idea, yet we judge people every day by how they look, dress, talk and/or behave without even knowing them. Without knowing any backstory at all, we have a whole story about them that we've made up in our minds.
Yet, despite life experiences proving us wrong over and over again, we still make judgments about people we hardly know at all. Well, just in case you need it, here is another example for you of why we shouldn't judge those we don't know. This story is about an old man named Lung Decha.
Lung Decha went to check out the motorcycles in a shop called Maxsingburi Bike Shop in Amphoe Khai Bang Rachan in Sing Buri, Thailand. Here is how he was dressed when he was in the store. He was ignored because he was in flip flops and was wearing worn and tattered clothes.
Because of his appearance the sales people just assumed he was only there to look. They ignored him thinking that he was probably just happy to be that close to a Harley Davidson. No one in the store gave them the time of day.
After all the questions and inspecting and time spent in the store, he brought out his 600,000 baht and paid for the Harley with his hard-earned cash! It looks like that baby belongs to you now, sir! You showed them, didn’t you.
Some people in the store were so surprised by his purchase that they took pictures of him and posted it to their Facebook pages. One of these Facebook users was the sister of the man and she shared on social media that her brother was a simple, regular guy who spent all of his life working as a mechanic. Well, look at him now!
He always knew that when he retired he wanted to fulfill his lifelong dream of buying his own Harley. And that he did. He finally bit the bullet and made his dream come true. He also added some customized featured to the motorcycle to make it his own.
So, here is yet another example of why we should not judged someone by how they are dressed or how they look. We don't know who someone is, what kind of person they are or how much money they have just by looking at them. And honestly, we shouldn't care either way. Worry about yourself!
We should have learned this lesson in 1990 when we first watched the movie Pretty Woman. Remember when she goes shopping and the saleswomen won't help her and then she goes in and buys the whole store? I wonder if Lung saw Pretty Woman and he was having his very own Julia Roberts moment? Good for him!
