Can't wait for the Victoria's Secret fashion show in November? The lingerie company isn't being tight-lipped on what's in store for the show. The models who will grace the catwalk have been announced.
Familiar faces like Adriana Lima and Josephine Skriver will be returning to the show. We'll also have a chance to see some new faces on the catwalk. Victoria Lee, Estelle Chen and Grace Bol will be among the first-timers at the Victoria's Secret fashion show.
Of course, what's a Victoria's Secret fashion show without supermodels? Not a very good one, that's what. Supermodels Lily Aldridge, Alessandra Ambrosio, Taylor Hill, Elsa Hosk, Martha Hunt, Stella Maxwell, Lais Ribeiro, Sara Sampaio,Romee Strijd, and Jasmine Tookes will all grace the stage.
But some faces will be missing from the show. Kenall Jenner and Bella Hadid were not on the list of announced models. However, the show isn't until November, so it's still possible we could see them on the stage when the show finally airs.
The Victoria's Secret fashion show will also prove that motherhood can be sexy. Models and new moms Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepool will both be strutting their stuff months after giving birth. Both models weren't able to participate in last year's show, but they will be back flaunting their postpartum bods!
The Victoria's Secret fashion show has been a tried and true staple of the fashion industry, but this year will see some changes. The Angels are going overseas, and the show will be held in Shanghai this year. No word on if they will get their by plane or just fly with their angel wings.
The fashion show normally takes place in New York City, so it's Chinese locale will be a departure from the norm. The show experimented with other cities, like London and Paris. However, Shanghai is the furthest away the show has ever been.
Walking in the Victoria's Secret fashion show is a huge deal. The show has been described as the "Super Bowl of fashion," and given the work that goes into it, the moniker is accurate. Except none of the women look like linebackers.
Like pro athletes, the models go through rigorous training to prepare for the show. “It feels like we’re training for the Olympics,” said one model. Because hey, when pretty much the entire world is going to see you in your underwear, you want to look your best.
The models work hard to get in the best shape of their lives and aren't afraid to admit it. Gone are the days of models pretending that they "woke up like this." As it turns out, when you get hired to be incredibly beautiful, you have to do your job. And a lot of work goes into working the runway.
The workout routines that the models have to go through are intense. “I work out seven days a week, sometimes twice a day," said one model of her fitness regimen. Another model likens the workout process to that of professional athletes. “I totally think we’re athletes. I mean, we have to work out all the time, just like an athlete," she said.
But then again, the girls have a lot of incentive to work out. “There’s millions and millions of people who will see it on TV, so there’s nowhere to hide on that runway. You really have to think about that when you’re in the gym, in pain. You’re like, ‘Come on!’" said another model.
While the women make it look effortless, it takes a lot of physical stamina and mental focus to look that good in next to nothing. It is not as easy as it seems! “I really use every muscle when I’m on the runway—walking with heavy wings you have to really have your body be the strongest that it can be," said one model of the experience.
Beauty is pain, and modeling is no exception. When you're trying to look your best, there are times when you are going to have to go through the worst. "I would like to think it’s all good genes, but definitely not. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into this," said one model.
“It’s like being an Olympian," said Victoria's Secret creative director Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou. But unlike the Olympics, we don't have to wait every four years for it. We just have to wait until November.
