Most aspiring actors and actresses want to get their hands on all the coveted awards being handed out. Many would love to see their names imprinted on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sure, it may be amazing to win a Grammy or Oscar, but actually having people see your name displayed on the Walk of Fame is magical.
2. Walk On The Fame
The Walk of Fame began in the 1950s where some of the most talented stars had their names showcased on this historical and iconic sidewalk. But you probably didn’t know that there is one bizarre reason that some eligible celebrities do not have their names on that Walk.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has a special selection committee that selects prospects from nominations submitted each year. To be considered, the nominated celebrity would have to accept the offer from the committee.
4. The Walk Of Fame Nominated
Each year, the Walk of Fame gets a bevy of nomination submissions over the almost seven decades that it has been around. So why aren’t there specific celebrities on the walk? You would be surprised at the interesting answer.
5. Accept, Sign And Show Up
When a celebrity accepts the nomination from the committee, the selected nominee must sign a contract, agreeing to be present at the ceremony. And that is all that has to be done, really. Or is it?
Wait! That’s not all. They all have to pay a fee of almost $30,000. That's a big chunk of change. But, according to the committee, fifty percent of the money will be used to create the actual star on the Walk of Fame. The other fifty percent is for maintaining that damn star for years to come.
7. Dole Out The Cash
It probably sounds weird, but according to the committee, the person who nominated the celebrity should pay the fee. However, most times, it is the celebrity that has to dole out the dough. Yes, you have to pay money to win an award on the Walk of Fame.
8. Not Really That Important To George
There are several actors and actresses, over the years that have just denied accepting a nomination. George Clooney is one of them. Julia Roberts and Clint Eastwood did not accept either.
9. You Have Some Explaining To Do, Please
Could Julia Roberts and other celebrities like her think the whole award thing is kind of silly? Or could it be the large fee and the unusual reasons for the large fee? You really have to wonder.
10. No Options
No matter your wealth, no sane person should be blamed for thinking $30,000 is lot of money for this arranged venture. In fact, some celebs think that the committee should pay the fee or possibly lower it for the honoree. Right now, this process has no expected changes. So celebrities are going to have to pay for their star or else get nuthin'.
