Oprah Winfrey has been a household name for decades. This 63-year-old media mogul is worth an estimated 3 billion dollars, and her list of accomplishments spans a laundry list of industries. With a magazine, television network, and even a line of frozen meals under her belt, Oprah shows no signs of stopping. This celeb has constantly claimed the top spot on Forbes' list of World's Most Powerful Celebrities, and she doesn't waste any time when it comes to new and exciting career endeavors. It was only a matter of time before Oprah monopolized the entire industry, and she didn't hesitate to make some huge business decisions.
There is a reason Oprah has been crowned the queen of all media. She is the world's first black female billionaire, and she just keeps stacking more and more cash. Oprah began her own network named OWN in 2011, which she could easily fund with her net worth if ratings ever were to plummet. She even decided to take over the airwaves in 2006 by signing a $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio. From bestselling books to Weight Watchers endorsements, this lady is constantly up to something. She will never forget where she came from, and how one daytime talk show started it all.
Oprah began hosting the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986, and it became a huge success. The show became the highest-rating talk-show program in television history, and it came to an end in the year 2011 after she launched her own television network OWN. There was even an auction to own a seat from the show after it left the air, revealing how coveted the Oprah Winfrey Show really was to audiences everywhere.
Born to a poor, unwed teenage mother, Oprah really symbolizes the benefit of hard work and perseverance. "I don't think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who, from an early age, knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good," Oprah stated. Fans have noticed that the world's most powerful woman has one thing missing from her life, and we finally know why Oprah has never experienced a bout of baby fever.
This media mogul will be the first to admit she isn't cut out for motherhood. “If I had kids, my kids would hate me. They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something (in my life) would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them," she admitted. Oprah Winfrey is known to cut to the chase, and she further explained her reasoning with one key personality trait she posses.
Oprah is quick to admit she just doesn't have the time or the proper mindset to mother a child. "I don’t have the patience. I have the patience for puppies, but that’s a quick stage," Oprah exclaimed. Amen to that, Oprah! This inspirational woman is just continuing to prove that she doesn't need to become a mother to make her life meaningful.
Oprah Has Found Immense Meaning Without Being A Mother
Oprah has definitely followed her heart and made her dreams happen. She received endless Emmy Awards and humanitarian honors, and she was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. Her tough childhood is just a testament to how resilient this woman really is, and the battles she had to overcome to be successful.
Oprah Winfrey's childhood was nothing close to picturesque. She was sexually abused by numerous family members, and she is still dealing with the trauma to this day. "I was raped at 9 years old by a cousin, then again by another family member, and another family member," she stated. This abuse led to one of Oprah's deepest secrets — one that brings her great shame and sorrow.
Oprah experienced immense loss at a very young age. She gave birth to a son named Canaan when she was just 14 years old, but he died after just a few weeks of life. The pregnancy was a result of the continual sexual abuse she experienced, and it shaped her to make a difference for other children later on in life.
Oprah Has Changed The Lives Of Children Everywhere
Oprah created the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, where she provides educational and leadership opportunities to girls who would otherwise go without. Her boarding school is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and they graduated their first senior class in 2012 — in which all graduates earned full college scholarships.
Her Motherly Role Isn't Conventional, But It's Impact Is Great
Oprah didn't give birth to these girls, but she cares for all of them as her own. "When people were pressuring me to get married and have children, I knew I was not going to be a person that ever regretted not having them, because I feel like I am a mother to the world’s children," Oprah stated. Oprah has always lived life on her own terms, and this also includes her long-term romantic relationship.
Oprah Doesn't Follow Any Rules In Her Relationship
Marriage is not in the cards for Oprah, despite her being in a relationship with Stedman Graham for over thirty years. "I think it’s acceptable as a relationship, but if I had the title ‘wife,’ I think there would be other expectations for what a wife is and what a wife does. First of all, you’ve got to come home sometimes," Oprah stated. This lady won't be slowed down by any relationship, and she has made this clear with Graham.
"If you ever interviewed him [Stedman], he would tell you that had we married, we would not be together today. Because he’s a traditional man and this is a very untraditional relationship," Oprah stated. It's pretty obvious that Oprah won't be tied down, and she is more than okay with that. Nonetheless, she gets fulfillment in many other places.
Although Oprah doesn't embrace traditional roles, she spreads her love through the causes she supports. "Love knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter if a child came from your womb or if you found that person at age 2, 10 or 20. If the love is real, the caring is pure and it comes from a good space, it works," she revealed. These are definitely words to live by!
It's no wonder she has so much power. Oprah is definitely creating her own path, and she is inspiring others to do the same. No one has the same goals and dreams, and Oprah is proof that success is not dependent on motherhood, money or even marital status!
