The first two seasons of Kenan & Kel were shot in Orlando at Universal Studios Florida. They moved to Los Angeles in season three in hopes to feature more celebrities. How did they feel about moving from the East Coast to the West Coast? The show’s show runner, Dan Frischman, was relieved.
"There was a TV monitor outside the dressing area in Orlando that had a goofy Nickelodeon cartoon character singing a very annoying jingle," Frischman said in an interview in 2013.
Kenan & Kel was the first primetime sitcom to star two African-American lead actors on Nickelodeon.
4. Coolio Wrote And Sang The Theme Song
Coolio not only wrote and sang the theme song of Kenan & Kel, but he also made his directorial debut with the show’s opening sequence. When asked who he liked better he replied, "Kel, excuse my French, wouldn't have been sh*t without Kenan, and Kenan wouldn't have been sh*t without Kel. They go hand-in-hand."
They were best buds both on the set and off the set and their moms were tight too. Off set the four would hang out and the ladies would chat while the boys got into trouble. They loved to play pranks on each other, like the time they replaced the dishwasher soap with laundry detergent.
"It was bubbles everywhere. The whole apartment was just with bubbles," Mitchell said in an interview with ABC News. "It was like an episode of Kenan & Kel but real life. It was pretty funny."
7. 'Kenan & Kel' Was Not The Original Title Of The Show
Britney’s appearance on the show happened in 1999, when they snuck into her trailer and accidentally ruined her hair. She then went on to appear on shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Will and Grace, How I Met Your Mother and more recently, Jane the Virgin.
10. Nick Cannon Was In 4 Episodes
Remember the geeky delivery boy in four episodes of Kenan & Kel? Well that was none other than comedian Nick Cannon before he was “the” Nick Cannon.
In 2015, the two appeared on the Tonight Show in a Good Burger sketch and then starred in a Fandago Ad together. When asked about the mini-reunion, Kenan said, "Filming these new ads with Kel brought back warm memories of going to the movies together and riffing on memorable scenes from our favorite flicks."
So, what about a real reunion or reboot? Neither one of the guys has turned down the idea of a reboot so I guess only time will tell.
