It’s probably safe to say that very few of us actually have comprehensive plans for what to do in life-threatening situations. And if such a thing were to happen, no one can really be sure how they’d react under pressure. The following are some hacks that might just save your life one day!
If you’re ever abducted, drop your wallet at the spot where you were abducted to help tip off others on your whereabouts. You can always cancel your credit cards - your life is invaluable. It’s an incredibly scary scenario to think about, but doing this could lead to your safety!
If you ever suspect that you’re being followed, lead the stalker to the nearest well-lit public place. And whatever you do, don’t go home! The last thing you want is for your stalker to know where you live....
If you hear someone breaking into your home, yell to them that you’ve called 911. Even if this sounds unbelievable, you have to remember that burglars are people too - most don’t want to get caught so they won’t want to stick around to find out whether you’ve actually called the police or not.
If you happen to be alone in an elevator with someone who’s creeping you out, press as many of the elevator buttons as you can. That way, the door will open on every floor and you can either make your escape, or the creep will leave you alone when other people witness what’s going on.
Your kitchen isn’t just full of delicious foods...it’s also an arsenal of potential weapons! If an attacker breaks into your home, go to the kitchen and grab the biggest knife you can find. Of course, use it as a very last resort - you don’t want the attacker grabbing the knife and using it on you instead.
Rings can be a powerful weapon. If you get into a situation where you have to hit someone out of self-defense, a sharp ring can be very useful, and will likely hurt a lot more than just using your bare knuckle.
If you find yourself in the terrifying situation where someone is tying your hands together, here’s what you can do: clench your fists tightly. This causes the muscles in your wrists to bulge. Once your hands are tied, relax your them and the rope will loosen. At this point you can try to slip your hands through it.
If someone comes at you with a gun and demands your wallet, don’t just hand it to them. Instead, throw it a few feet away from you. It’s very likely that the mugger only wanted your money and had no intention of actually harming you, but don’t take that chance!
It might be instinct for some to completely freeze up, but if you’re being abducted, try to put up the biggest fight that you can before your attacker gets you into a vehicle. That way, you still have a chance of escaping and you may draw attention to the situation. Once you’re locked away in a car, you’re out of sight from the public and won’t have anywhere to run.
You’ve probably heard this trick before: if you’re walking back home or to your car in a sketchy area, have your keys ready in your hand in case you need a quick weapon to protect yourself. Only, don’t have them in between each knuckle like Wolverine, but rather like in the picture.
Kicking someone in the back of the knee will not only hurt, but it could also cause the attacker’s legs to buckle, buying you a few seconds to run away. If you kick them hard enough, they’ll likely be in too much pain to be able to chase after you.
This one probably seems super obvious, but the key is to have your spare cash in an inconspicuous place in case your wallet gets stolen. For instance, slip a few dollars (and maybe your ID as well) in between your phone and phone case. Having a bit of extra cash on you in an emergency could end up really helping you out.
Again, this might seem incredibly difficult to do in a scary moment like being attacked, but if you can remember, make your attacker believe that they chose the wrong person to mess with.
Yell, scream, and give them the most difficult time possible...obviously, use caution if you think they might have a weapon, but they may end up just giving up and running away if you prove to them that you’re not a very easy target!
