David Greenberg lead a team of psychologists at the University of Cambridge to study 4,000 participants who answered questions about thinking styles, personalities and musical taste. Fifty excerpts of different types of music were used.
3. Systemizers vs. Empathizers: Which One Are You?
They were able to separate people into empathizers, who focus on others and their emotions and feelings, versus systemizers, who focus on analytics and patterns. These different types of people, according to the study, appreciate different types of music.
4. Empathizers Love Norah Jones and Other Sensual Emotional Music
People who have high levels of empathy tend to like music that is mellow, gentle and emotionally dense. Similarly, they enjoy music that explores negative emotions, (we're looking at you Elliott Smith) poetic musings and thoughtfulness.
