This is Kelsie, she's a makeup artist and nail technician. Recently, one of her Instagram posts got a big reaction when she showed us what she looked like with no makeup and a full face in one picture.
Her message that accompanied the image is the reason it went viral as she stands up for women and how much makeup they choose to wear.
Kelsie's photo was a contribution to the Instagram challenge "The Power Of Makeup," which celebrates women who love their natural look, but also the creativity of makeup and the transformation it can create.
As is the nature of the internet, there is always a negative reaction to deal with. These kinds of empowering posts are frequently edited to become memes or re-grams with cruel, sexist "jokes" attached to them.
This kind of attitude is exactly what keeps women feeling insecure about their own personal choices, bringing us back to the false, core value that makeup is only there to please men.
The pressure to look perfect never lessens; just take a look at what happens when we Googled "ugly no makeup."
It's no surprise that women feel they have to continue to cover their faces in makeup if this is the ridicule they receive when they have the audacity to show the faces they were born with to the world.
We shouldn't have to worry what people might say if we choose to only wear mascara or fancy doing a sultry, smokey eye, but until people learn to mind their own business, we'll have to just ignore them.
So from now on, do what you want for YOU and no one else!
