In fairness, NASA hasn’t specifically focused on dispelling astrology with their findings, but their updated observations of the constellations have had a ripple effect on the 3,000-year-old astrological calendar.
The Babylonians already had a 12-month calendar based on the orbit of the moon, so they married the sun-based zodiac with the moon’s movements. However, the sun actually crosses a 13th constellation called Ophiuchus… And here lies the rub.
Here is a calculation of the zodiac when taking into account NASA’s new calculations. Guess someone needs to clarify to the masses what Ophiuchus means or a chunk of people won’t know who they are anymore!
"We didn’t change any Zodiac signs, we just did the math. The Space Place article was about how astrology is not astronomy, how it was a relic of ancient history, and pointed out the science and math that did come from observations of the night sky."
