Cue the great white shark. Unassuming, fast, and not really bothered by us unless it has nothing to eat. This fine creature of the sea is set to race golden boy in what has been called a race between “two of the world’s finest athletes…in the name of good television.”
The race is a special event in honor of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. The event has been aptly titled Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White. Phelps is set to race with a great white which still needs to be identified (auditions are open for you sharp-toothed white creatures.)
Ever since hearing about the race, people are scratching their head as to how Phelps will race a great white. Will they race during different times? Will they race in different pools? I know this guy is pushing himself but I don’t think he’s crazy enough to race a great white side-by-side.
Whatever the race will look like, let’s hope Phelps comes out of it unscathed. This guy has other work to do during shark week. He is set to visit a shark lab to get a lecture on sharkology. Yup, that’s a thing.
Phelps will attend Shark School. Can you imagine great white sharks carrying their lunch boxes and accessorizing their fins while heading to school and bitching about prof. not-so-great white shark. Oh, wait, it’s not that kind of Shark School.
Shark School will feature experts on sharks. Together with Phelps, they will be educating people about sharks. They will clean up the bad rep sharks have with people and teach people how to stay safe when diving with sharks.
Phelps has already had a taste of what it’s like to swim with sharks. He posted an Instagram shot saying how happy he was to have had the opportunity to swim with sharks IN A CAGE. It’s not the same Phelps. It’s clearly NOT THE SAME.
Ultimately, what Phelps is saying with his decision to race a shark is that he has to resort to racing creatures of the sea because no human is as fast as him. The race will air on the Discovery Channel on the 23rd July. Don’t miss the craziness!
